Harold, Dad, Grandpa passed at 97 years young. He lived life to the fullest, every minute. He brought joy and laughter to all of those who were near him, and he will be dearly missed.
Dad completed a truly wonderful journey. As family we felt and appreciated his joyous impact as did all those who met him. He quickly became a happy fixture at Northcrest Care Centre where the staff and residents often shared their love, appreciation and stories of Dad with us. We want to express our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Northcrest.
Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Emily of 70 years and his beloved middle son Bruce, and his Australian sisters and brothers Amy, Florence, Danny, Walter, Patricia, and William.
Missing Dad dearly are his eldest son Clifford (Kathy), grandchildren Melissa (Justin), Ashleigh (Rodrigo) and great grandchildren Aiden, Quinn, Hazel and Henry; along with his youngest son Rodney (Jane), and Bruce's partner (Stella), as well as Kathy's extended family and countless loving nieces and nephews.
Dad left home at an early age to travel the world with the merchant marines where he left ship in San Francisco to begin his long adventure with Emily.
Initially, Mom travelled with Dad back to Australia and explored settling down under. Eventually they sailed back to Vancouver on the MV Aorangi. In the mid 1950’s Dad built the family home in Burnaby and resided there for 6 decades.
Aussie was able to share his incredible work ethic with colleagues at the Greater Vancouver Regional District for 34 years. His infectious personality helped him create lifelong friends along the way.
In the 60’s Dad and Mom purchased property at Pender Harbour which was an extension of his Australian childhood experience, swimming, the ocean, fishing and a place that all of us gathered throughout our life.
Dad gave back to his community volunteering as manager, coach and executive while his 3 sons were with Burnaby Minor Hockey Association, and he travelled to all of their sporting activities no matter the distance.
In retirement Dad enjoyed countless fastpitch games and tournaments watching and supporting the grandchildren and their teammates wherever they played and always keeping the kids in “snacks”.
Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling with their sons to see the many relatives in Manitoba, Australia and England.
Dad will certainly be missed though he would consider himself very lucky as do we, for having such a great long life.
As he frequently said “We’ll see you when we see you”
A Celebration of Life to be held for Dad will be announced in early 2025
