It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Chrisoula Goulas. Chrisoula was a caring selfless soul and was adored by all who knew her.
Chrisoula was born in Mesochori, Messinia, Greece. She was the third of five children to Andrianna and Vasili Giannakopoulos. Crossing the Atlantic Ocean to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1957, the 18-year-old was processed by Canadian immigration and travelled to Montreal, Quebec to join her older sister, Maria. It was in Montreal where she trained to be a hairdresser and became very successful with an enormous clientele. It was here she met her husband, Yianni and they married in 1965. Chrisoula and Yianni had the same dream of becoming business owners. They drove across Canada in 1967 and relocated in Vancouver, British Columbia. In 1968 she and her husband Yianni opened their first restaurant in Osoyoos, British Columbia and from there went to open many other restaurants. Chrisoula worked in the restaurants and was instrumental in running them. In 1982 the entire family moved to Prince George where Chrisoula and Yianni remained until retirement in 2002 when they moved to South Surrey to be closer to family.
Despite coming from humble beginnings in post-war Greece, Chrisoula lived the North American Dream. Chrisoula is predeceased by her loving husband Yianni. She is survived by her daughters Nicoleta and Adrienne (Jason). She is an adored Yiayia (grandmother) to Gavin, Nina and Yianni. The love she has for her three grandchildren was beyond anything imaginable. Her legacy will remain alive through her daughters and her grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
