Glen Lewis Meyer

Glen L. Meyer, 94, of Surprise, Arizona, and formerly of San Diego, California, passed away at home in the early morning of Tuesday, September 24, 2024 while under the care of Choice Hospice of Phoenix, Arizona. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024 at three o’clock in the afternoon at Surprise Funeral Care, 16063 West Bell Road, Surprise, Arizona 85374.

Glen, known to many as Bapa, was one of five children born to Eldridge and Pearl Claussen Meyer. He was born on October 27, 1929 in Grundy County, Iowa. He and his high school sweetheart, Oma Meyer—née Cooper, were married on July 3, 1948. Together they had two daughters, Bonnie Jean and Marlyce Ann (Mitzi), who in turn gave them two grandchildren. Jennifer Anell was born to Bonnie and Joe White, and Derek Campbell was born to Mitzi and Dennis Leslie. When Mitzi remarried, Glen welcomed a new son-in-law, Harvey Lobelson, and gained two more granddaughters, Deirdre Beth and Holly Lobelson. Since then Glen’s family has only grown in size and love with the addition of nine great grandchildren: Alison Corinne, Faith Noelle, and Erin Suzanne (born to Jennifer and David Cooksey); Hayden Jonah, Delilah Ann, and Dillon Glen (born to Derek and Aimee Leslie); Nicole Elizabeth (born to Deirdre and Jim Skertich); and twins Ella Drew and Olivia Sage (born to Holly and Rob Silvestri). Glen was even so blessed as to meet his great-great granddaughter, Ophelia Belle (born to Alison Cooksey-Allgood and Stetson Allgood).

Glen was a family man who loved without limits, and he exemplified quiet strength and patience. He was a favorite of children, always ready and willing to play at their level, and his smile was infectious. He enjoyed traveling and gardening, woodworking and tinkering, as well as many sports, particularly baseball (Go Padres!). He was an animal lover, too, and always made his lap available to any dog or cat that wanted to cuddle. He routinely opened his home and heart to the friends of his children and grandchildren, and this—his unparalleled graciousness, unending generosity, and a life so well-lived—are what those he has left behind can only aspire to, and the warmth and joy heard in his laughter will be the legacy he leaves us with.

Glen is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchild, as well as his sister Pauline, his brother Ron, and several beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Glen was preceded in death by his loving wife, Oma (Onnie) Meyer; brother, Wayne Meyer; brother Delbert Meyer; sister-in-law Gla Meyer; sister-in-law Ann Meyer; brother-in-law Harley Mulder; and sister-in-law Jean Meyer.
