Sondra Carole McCarthy

Former Chagrin Falls, OH resident Sondra C. McCarthy, 85, passed away April 12, 2023 from an unexpected medical event, with her family by her side in Surprise, AZ. Her battles with serious medical issues in recent years showed her courage in facing life’s challenges and staying strong until the end.

She was born February 25, 1938 in Cleveland, OH to Frank and Roslynde Emery. Sondra last worked for Paul Davis Restoration, where she retired at age 74 and moved to Sun City Grand in Surprise, AZ. Her interests included parties/dinners with her many friends, playing dominoes & Mahjong, and sitting in her backyard reading and admiring the sun! She was an active member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Surprise, AZ and enjoyed many a trivia night with her friends the Butterflies. She was also a member of the AZ Dawgs chapter of the Cleveland Browns Backers where during the season she would always have a seat at the table with “her boys” who looked out for her every Sunday!

Sondra was preceded in death by her husband Tom, her parents, her brother Frank and her nephew Frankie Emery. She is survived by her sister Cookie (Karla Tommasini) of Cleveland, OH; Her children Shannon McCarthy (Dan Evans) of Surprise, AZ, T.J. McCarthy (Michelle) of Maineville, OH, and Colleen Mellon (Derrick) of Inlet Beach, FL; Her beautiful granddaughters, Kayla McCarthy, Allison McCarthy, Taylor Mellon, Sydney McCarthy and Nicole Mellon; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

At her request a service will be held Saturday April 29, 2023 at 10am, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 14818 W. Deer Valley Dr., Sun City West, AZ 85375. A Celebration of Life will be held in Chagrin Falls, OH in July 2023.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Hospice of the Valley, Surprise, AZ.
