Myles Daitzman

Myles was a quiet man of integrity. But as a Council colleague once said, “Myles doesn’t need to hear the sound of his own voice, so when he does speak, people listen.”

Myles was born in Weehawken, New Jersey in 1937, 14 minutes before his twin sister, Janice, and five years after his brother, Ira. He was raised by parents who valued education, giving back to their community and time at the Jersey Shore. Myles graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford, New Jersey where he was a founding member of Alpha Pi Omega fraternity. He then followed in the footsteps of his father, a Russian Jewish immigrant, by earning his law degree from NYU Law School. He began his legal career in Jersey City, N.J. and later established a private practice as a real estate attorney in New Milford, N.J.

Soon after the end of WWII, his family began spending their summers in various boarding houses in Belmar, New Jersey, which is where, at the age of 15, he met the love of his life, Maxine Feder. The couple exchanged their vows in 1959, embarking on a 64-year journey together. They were soon blessed with two children, Risa and Scott. In 1963, Myles and his growing family moved to New Milford, New Jersey, where they lived for 35 years and deepened their roots in the community.

A passionate advocate for his community, Myles was elected as a Councilman in New Milford, serving with dedication and distinction for over a decade beginning in 1969. In addition, he held a variety of volunteer positions at his synagogue, Beth Tikvah, and served in leadership positions in the Lions Club. His commitment to public service left an indelible mark on the place he called home.

After retirement, Myles and Maxine made a new home in Sun City, Arizona and spent their summers in Logan, Utah, enjoying the Utah State University Summer Citizens program. Myles continued his volunteer and leadership efforts in Sun City through his synagogue, Temple Beth Sholom, and the Lions Club, which recently recognized his 50+ years of lifetime service.

Myles is survived by his loving wife, Maxine, daughter Risa Heywood (Patrick) and son, Scott (Tammy), grandchildren, Amanda Heywood, Rebecca Heywood (Camila), Robbie Daitzman (Lauren), Steven Daitzman (Sydney) and Josh Daitzman (Rebecca), and great-grandson, Declan Daitzman. He is also survived by his twin sister, Janice Wentz (Dick). He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel, his mother, Ruth Shifrin, and brother, Ira (Marion).

Myles Daitzman passed away peacefully in Arizona on October 25, 2023. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy of love, service, and dedication will forever be cherished.
