Francis Eugene Kovach

Francis E. Kovach of Sun City, AZ died 9/30/2019. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, 9/17/1931 to John and Allena Kovach, both deceased. Raised in Struthers, Ohio where he was a Salutatorian of the Struthers High Class of 1949. Went to The Ohio State University graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor of Architecture. While in his last year he met Joan Ange at the Neuman Club. They were married in 9/24/1955 and had 4 children, Dana, Leslie, Laurel and Marta. They also had 4 grandchildren, Paul, Candice and Dan Kovach, and Eric Ferko along with 8 great grandchildren. He also had a brother John Kovach (deceased), and a sister, Jean Lockwood as well as a cousin David Moses and his wife Georgia. Frank and Joan celebrated their 50th Anniversary 8/24/2005. Frank lost his wife and best friend in July of 2006 to Alzheimer’s and many other illnesses. He worked his way through college doing many jobs, one of which was playing fiddle for Bob Verbeck’s Early American Square Dance Band, staying with the group for 28 years. While in college he went to work for the A. L. Meyer Construction Company and rose to Executive Vice President and partner. In 1983 he went to work as Construction Services Manager in Children’s Hospital. He attended St. Paul Catholic Church in Westerville, Ohio where he was a choir director for many years. Joan was plagued with Rheumatoid Arthritis so in 1986 they decided she needed a dry climate and relocated to Sun City, Arizona. Frank was hired by the Arizona Department of Administration as a Project Manager handling prison and office building management. He retired in 1993 as Administrator of Statewide Planning for the DOA General Services Division. In retirement he and Joan traveled around the country to visit Family and friends and then he took up golf, meeting many friends from St. Clement of Rome Church as coordinator for their golf group. At St. Clement, he sang in the choir and was president of the Parish Council. He enjoyed his wife and family and was very proud of their accomplishments.
