She was born on December 23, 1932 in Hibbing, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Margaret (Burns) Quiel. She attended school in Maple Hill and graduated from Hibbing High School in 1951.
Dorothy married Lawrence Thompson and enjoyed 54 years of marriage before he passed away in February 2006. She worked as a telephone operator nurse and homemaker.
Her volunteer activities included hospital auxiliary, Campfire Girls, church and community service fund raising. After moving to Sun City Grande in 1997, she was a founding member of Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church and served as president of Grand Stitchers Community Services. She loved travel, sewing, craft and quilting.
She spent the last eight years at Sierra Winds Independent Living where she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, reading, bingo and her kind neighbors. Dorothy is survived by daughter Cynthia Thompson, son Mark Thompson, granddaughter Karla Nemitz and great-granddaughtr Penny Nemitz. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Jim Quiel and Jack Quiel.
She loved her family very much and will be greatly missed.
