She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Marquis “M.C.” Simmons, Jr.; son, Jimmy Simmons; parents, Lawrence and Ada Perry; nine brothers, five sisters and several nieces and nephews.
Ethel was born in Indian Bayou, LA and moved to Sulphur after high school graduation. She had many talents which included seamstress, hairdresser, quilter, and loved to crochet, knit, garden and cook. She was a member of “UMW” in her church Wesley United Methodist, a devoted wife, mother, and friend.
Survivors include her daughters, Lenore Smith of Metarie, and Sue Cline and husband, Carter of Carlyss; grandsons, Mark Simmons, Scott Simmons, Payton Smith, and Corey Cline; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2016 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sulphur. Rev. Bradley Swire will officiate. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Thursday at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home, and 9-11 a.m. Friday at the church. The family wishes to thank all of her devoted caregivers and the employees of Stonebridge Place Assisted Living for the comfort and kindness extended to our mother.
