Doris Marie John, 94, of Sulphur, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024. Doris was born in Lake Charles, on December 19, 1929 to Joseph and Ida Meaux. She was a devout Catholic and member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor and Wednesday morning prayer group. She was also a member of the Golden Girls. Doris loved to knit, make rosaries, technology and learning on the computer, dining out, and watching classic films. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Doris is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Ellis John; her parents; son, Mathew Emerson John; and sister, Garnette Guidry.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Mark Ellis John and wife Julie of Liberty, Texas and Christopher Edward John and wife Bridget of Sulphur; brother, Herman Meaux; grandchildren, Jamie Little, Alex John and Danielle Soileau; great-grandchildren, Tucker Little, Taytum Little and Levi Soileau; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church. Father Edward Richard will officiate. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines South in Carlyss. Visitation will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 5, from 5 to 8 PM with a Rosary at 6 PM.
