Victor Leyran Ortega

Victor L. Ortega, born December 28, 1960, of Sugar Land, TX, passed on to eternal life while surrounded by his loving wife, daughter, and friends on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

Born and raised in the Philippines and a graduate of La Salle High School Class of ‘78 in Bacolod City, Victor resided in Texas most of his adult life. From his humble beginnings as a busboy and bellman to his 25+ year career as a telecom engineer, Victor took pride in his work, but even more so, he took great pride in his family especially his three granddaughters. He was a lifelong athlete playing basketball and tennis during his years in Dallas then weekly tee times on various Houston golf courses. Vic, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Victor is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Azon Ortega; daughter, Rina Ortega (John M. Scheaffer); granddaughters, Redding Lourdes Ortega Scheaffer, Ruby Louise Ortega Scheaffer, Mavis Lillian Ortega Scheaffer; stepchildren, Gino Ongpauco, Madelaine (Giovasco) Barlao, Brian (Ge-anne) Ongpauco; step grandchildren, Kyler and Gweny Barlao, Yana, Kylie, and Coby Ongpauco. He was predeceased by his parents, Porfirio and Nona L. Ortega; and brother, Bobot L. Ortega. A generous, loving, and young-at-heart husband, father, and Lolo, Vic enjoyed the most time spent with family, enjoying good food and wine with his friends, and golfing with his buddies. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, at The Settegast-Kopf Company @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Fwy Sugar Land, TX 77478. Funeral Rites will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 25, 2025, at The Settegast-Kopf Company @ Sugar Creek.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Victor’s name may be made to American Diabetes Association® or American Kidney Fund.
