Born in Manhattan, Kansas on November 13, 1937, Ramona grew up in Westmoreland, Kansas, where she graduated from Westmoreland High School. She moved to Manhattan, Kansas and started working for the phone company, when she met her husband Don after he had returned from the Air Force in 1956 and was attending Kansas State University. They were married in 1958.
After graduation, Don worked as a geophysicist; they had many transfers and moves. The first thing Ramona did after moving to a new town was to find a United Methodist Church. She knew her family could always find good friends at a Methodist Church. Ramona and Don were always active in working with the church’s youth where ever they were members.
The final transfer by Chevron was to Houston in 1988. They became members of St Luke’s United Methodist Church. Ramona continued her service to the church by working with the 3rd grade Sunday school class, she was a member of the Funeral Guild, and served as a member of the Board of Directors, Ramona also served as a Circle Leader for the United Methodist Women, and served two years as President of the UMW, which she was very honored to do.
Ramona enjoyed traveling, both across the United States and abroad. She was truly devoted to her children and grandchildren and loved reminiscing over fond memories. Additionally, she was dedicated to supporting the Arts and had a great compassion for animals.
A Celebration of Ramona’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 2, 2014, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, Hospice, or to a Charity of your choice.
