Luther “Ed” Edward Price, age 75, passed away April 2, 2023, shortly after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s type B cell lymphoma. Ed was born on November 27, 1947, to Orem Egan Price and Megan Jones Price in Charleston, WV. The young family moved to Ohio where they settled roots in Washington Courthouse. Ed developed a strong work ethic at a young age delivering newspapers on a bicycle route. He would spend the rest of his life working and supporting his family until he went to the hospital to be diagnosed with lymphoma. Ed graduated from Washington Courthouse High School in 1965, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications at The Ohio State University in 1969, earned an MBA from Augusta State University with a concentration in Accounting in 1974, and obtained his CPA in 1981. Although he started his career in Augusta, GA, he eventually went to work for major companies in Houston, Texas’ energy sector. His favorite role was his last with NASA, as he had an affinity for all things outer space.
During his service with the US Army in the signal corps, Ed met the love of his life, Phyllis, outside of Fort Gordon’s Gate 2 at Urban Cleaners. Within 6 months’ time, Ed made Phyllis his wife on January 24, 1971; they tenderly doted on each other for the next 52 years of their life. Their love stands as a model to his surviving family. He was predeceased by his parents, Orem and Megan, and son, Richard. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Vivian; his daughter-in-law, Keri Harris-Price; his sister, Patricia Bailey; grandchildren, Ian Walker, Liam Yun, Richard “Richie” Anthony, Chance Anthony, and Jordyn “J.J.” Jewel; and nephew, Al Bailey.
Ed had a full life with many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed traveling, music, meeting people globally on his ham radio, and loved animals (especially their Bichons). His love of music led him to play saxophone for the high school and college bands. He also was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity and both, Ed and Phyllis, are lifetime alumni members of The Ohio State University. He collected mementos everywhere he travelled. His favorite trips were the ones with Phyllis at his side. It was after his last trip this March where he became fatally ill. The family is saddened that his radio call number (WB4SIO) will be forever silent.
The family would like to give thanks to Ed and Phyllis’s work families and friends who have provided much support and expressed their deepest condolences. Their compassion is appreciated and will never be forgotten.
