Jordan Ali Halane passed away on November 5, 2018 in Rosenberg, Texas. He was born on March 12, 1987 in Kansas City, Kansas, the oldest of three children to Ali and Carla Kitchen Halane. He was raised in the town of Sedalia, Missouri, where he graduated from Smith Cotton High School in 2005. He was a proud alum of the University of Missouri, graduating in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Music. Soon after college, Jordan moved to New York City to serve as a corps member for City Year in the South Bronx. It was here that he ignited his passion for education, leadership, and giving back, serving four additional years as a dynamic and inspiring leader within the organization. During his time in New York, he met and became engaged to fellow corps member, Claire, and earned a master’s degree in Nonprofit Leadership as part of the 2015 inaugural class at Fordham University. Upon moving to Sugar Land, Texas in 2015, Jordan and Claire married on December 11, 2016 in Houston, Texas. Jordan continued his impactful work within education, first as a teacher recruiter for KIPP Houston Public Schools and then as a teacher and vocal music director for both HISD and Lamar CISD. Music and the arts were always a major part of Jordan and his family’s life. He excelled in music, gracing the world with his powerful operatic voice and beautiful piano playing. He performed with a multitude of choirs, including the Mizzou University Singers and Park Slope Singers in Brooklyn, New York. Along with music, Jordan loved his family, friends and dog, was an avid sports fan, traveled around the world and enjoyed art, painting, food and movies. Jordan is survived by his loving wife, Claire Casuyon-Halane; his parents, Ali and Carla Kitchen Halane; his brother, Dr. Morgan Halane; his sister, Kheyra Halane Horton and her husband Emmanuel Horton; his father and mother in-law, Arsenio “Roy” and Emelyn Casuyon; many uncles, aunts, cousins, friends and his beloved dog, Hazel. He will be missed by all that were fortunate enough to have met him. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 11 from 4:00-8:00pm at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, with funeral services beginning at 10:30am on Monday, November 12 at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek. Interment will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, located at 12800 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77077. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Jordan’s memory to City Year, as well as The Edgar and Imogene Kitchen Scholarship Foundation at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, two causes Jordan deeply cared for.
