Dale Edward McClanahan, passed away December 7, 2012. He was born October 24, 1934 in Caney, Kansas the second of four children. He is survived by his three sisters, Marjorie Lewis of Amsterdam, Missouri, Mary Straw of Sherwood, Arkansas, and Dorcas Baugh of El Dorado, Kansas. He is also survived by his three children, Samuel, Rebecca and Deborah along with their spouses and children. Dale was born into a hardworking family where independence and self-reliance were valued. They gardened, hunted, canned, sewed, and did what was necessary to live in abundance. In 1952, Dale graduated from Kansas University a proud Jayhawk with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma where he worked for Conoco and met his beloved June De Laughter. Dale and June were married on June 20, 1959 in a double ring ceremony with June’s sister Dorothy and her husband Harry Deming. They worked for Conoco for some time living in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Denver , Colorado, and Artesia, New Mexico. In 1969, Dale and June moved their family to Kuwait and Dale worked for The Kuwait National Petroleum Company. By 1981 it was time to return to the states, so Dale took a job with Fluor Daniel in Sugar Land, Texas where he worked until his retirement. In his retirement, Dale enjoyed his weekly bridge group, wine-thirty with the neighbors, and teaching an Adult Bible Study class. His hobbies were gardening, birding, archeology, and traveling. Dale was devoted to his family, putting them before all else. He doted on his five grandchildren, Christy, Caitlin, Ray, Sean and Olivia. Dale was a faithful servant of Jesus and confident of his resurrection. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church, 431 Eldridge Road, Sugar Land, 77478 with a reception immediately following. The graveside will be a private family service.
