She was the beloved wife to Edward R. Greico, Sr, with whom she celebrated her 56th wedding anniversary on September 10th, 2022.
Born on Staten Island, New York, on October 17, 1947, Susan was the third of seven children born to the late William (Bill) McGrath and the late Julia (Piekalski) McGrath.
Susan, never Sue, graduated from St. Peter’s High School for Girls (Staten Island) in 1965, married in 1966, and earned B.S.N. and M.S.N. degrees as well as a Legal Nursing Consultant certification from Wagner College in the decades that followed. She worked in various healthcare roles across the tri-state area, from a teenaged candy-striper all the way to Director of Nursing, before retiring to Middletown, NY, in 2006 to be nearer to her children and grandchildren.
Susan was known not only for being a loving wife, mother, and friend, but also for her incredible thoughtfulness, her rich and varied knowledge of almost everything, her beautiful singing voice, her voracious appetite for books, and her role as family memory vault. Her mind and heart were always full and eager to engage with others.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Edward R. Greico, Jr., and wife, Erin of Goshen, NY, and her daughter, Jodilynn E. Greico of Suffern, NY. She is also survived by her pride and joy whom she loved “B.A.T.S.” (Big As The Sky) granddaughters Lily and Colette Mulhall and grandsons Ethan, Eli, and Emeric Greico. She was predeceased by her sister, Rose Heather Connell, and leaves five remaining siblings, Mary Anne McGrath, William McGrath, Timothy McGrath, Gerard McGrath, and Kathryn McGrath, as well as two sisters in law and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 8th, 2022 at eleven o’clock in the morning at Wanamaker and Carlough and all friends and family are welcome to attend. Interment will be private.
Visitors may call upon the family on Friday, October 7th, from two o’clock to four o’clock and from seven o’clock to nine o’clock, at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY 10901.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation (carcinoid.kindful.com) would be appreciated. The Greico family also asks that you please take a moment to leave a memory or story of Susan at www.wanamakercarlough.com to be gathered and later bound into a remembrance book.
Her family hopes that although google now exists, friends and loved ones will pause their search to remember her incredible talent for knowing at a moment the right vocabulary word, neighbor’s birthdate, or perfect little gift. We’ll take “Smartest Women in Heaven” for $2000, Alex.
