Sonia Georgina Vanderbilt

Sonia Vanderbilt, a resident of Airmont, NY, passed away on June 26, 2023. She was 84. Sonia was born on June 5, 1939 in Matanzas, Cuba to the late Rueben and Georgina (Artze) Gomez. She worked the majority of her career at Burlington Coat Factory in retail as a salesperson.

She loved her time with family, and enjoyed puzzles, walks on the beach, eating Cuban food, singing Feliz Navidad at Christmas with her grandchildren, NCIS, Hallmark movies, and sparkling cider.

She is survived by her children Charles (Hope) Vanderbilt, Rosy (Brian) McCann, her beloved grandchildren Alex (John) Piedmonte, Charles (Kelsey) McCann, and Brandon (Mariel) McCann and her adorable great grandchildren, twins Harper and Jackson Piedmonte.

She was predeceased by her husband Charles Vanderbilt Sr.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 28 from 1-3pm & 6-9pm at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Rt. 59 in Suffern, NY. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday, June 29 at 10am at All Souls Church, 81 Washington Avenue, Suffern, NY, where everyone is to meet that morning. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Park Cemetery, 535 Hudson St, Hackensack, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her honor to Meals on Wheels Programs and Services of Rockland (EIN: 13-2831197) who’s senior programs brought her a lot of joy.
