Dolores R. Hostomsky

Dolores R. Hostomsky, of Dowling Gardens in Sparkill, NY, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, at the age of 92. She was born on October 3, 1932, in Jersey City, NJ, to the late David and Mary (MacDougall) MacDonnell.

Dolores grew up in Washington Heights, NY, and attended Incarnation School. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, James Hostomsky, whom she married in 1956. As their family grew, they migrated from the Bronx to Rockland County, NY, and became the first in their families to buy a home. They settled in a close-knit neighborhood called Samsondale, where she made many lifelong friends and great memories.

She was a loving and supportive mother to her children, James Hostomsky (and his wife, Rose), Stephen Hostomsky, Kevin Hostomsky (and his wife, Grace), and Donna Nicholson (and her partner, Timothy Manteau).

Dolores was also a cherished grandmother to Victoria Hostomsky (and her husband, Nate Singer), and to Connor, Ryan, and Patrick Nicholson. She was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Jimmy D. Hostomsky.

In addition to her immediate family, Dolores is survived by many nieces and nephews, and her siblings, Allen MacDonnell and Maureen MacDonnell, and was predeceased by her brother, David MacDonnell.

She worked for many years at Pacesetter Pharmacy in Pomona, NY, but her true calling was caring and looking after her family, as well as helping to raise her grandchildren.

A lover of music, reading, movies, and a good cup of tea, Dolores' life was rich with the things that brought her joy and comfort. She was sunshine personified, generously gave out compliments to strangers, and lit up a room with her positive spirit. Her warmth, kindness, sense of humor, and legendary laugh will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY. A funeral service will take place that evening at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.

Interment will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 11:30 AM at Ascension Cemetery, Airmont, NY.
