Antonio Sebastian Trovato, known affectionately as Tony, passed away on July 5, 2024 at his home in Nanuet, NY, at the age of 91. Born on September 1, 1932, in New York, NY, Tony lived a vibrant life marked by his charismatic personality and diverse interests.
Tony was renowned for his outgoing nature, always equipped with a smile and a readiness to laugh. His love for dancing and jazz music was profound, often spending nights swaying to the tunes of his favorite crooner, Frank Sinatra, at various New York jazz clubs alongside his late wife, Mary Ellen. A proud Italian-American, Tony cherished his membership in the local Sons of Italy, celebrating his heritage with friends and family.
In service to his country, Tony joined the Air Force in 1952 and served four years being stationed in various locations in the country including Mitchel Air Force Base, Long Island, NY, Florida and Alaska.
Professionally, Tony dedicated his career to electronics, starting as a watchmaker before advancing to an electronic technician at Olivetti. His entrepreneurial spirit later led him to own a business, where he continued to innovate and tinker with electronic devices.
Beyond his professional life, Tony was a passionate member of the Korean Veterans Club and took immense pride in his family, particularly in the artistic achievements of his brothers,
Sebastian (Sandy) and his other siblings. His home was adorned with Sandy's artworks, and he was dedicated to preserving his brother's legacy in the art world.
He was a dreamer and a creator and had some artistic talent himself in architecture design. He admired many modern and upcoming architects, one of his favorites was Santiago Calatrava.
His appreciation for the mid-century modern contemporary form was evident in the home that he and MaryEllen built in Pomona, NY, where they lived and raised their two daughters. In their retirement years, they took many cruises and explored so much of the world, making many memories together.
Tony will be remembered for his passions, his energy and his outlook on life as a source of many opportunities to be explored.
Tony is survived by his daughter, Brigid; grandson, Antonio; brothers, Carmello (Tom) and Rosario (Terry). He was preceded in death by his spouse, Mary Ellen, and daughter, Diane.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 10 am to 12 pm at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY. This will be followed by a memorial mass at 12:30 pm at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 129 Lafayette Avenue in Suffern, NY. Tony's life and spirit will be celebrated and remembered by all who knew him.
