Donald R. Meltzer of Sudbury, entered into rest March 30, 2015. He was 82 and the beloved husband of Mary S. “Polly” (Seelye) Meltzer. Born in Malden, Massachusetts September 1, 1932, he was the son of the late Leo N. and Betty (Flesher) Meltzer. Don was a graduate of Malden High School, Dartmouth College and the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and was employed as a Certified Public Accountant at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell , the United Fruit Company (which later became United Brands) where he became Vice President for Finance. He later retired as Vice President for Finance of Instron Corp.
He formerly was President of Massachusetts Parents Assoc. for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing; was Co-President of Walk ‘n Mass, and Newsletter Editor for Volksport Assoc. He was formerly Chairman of the Board of Trustee of First Parish of Sudbury as well as Treasurer. Don volunteered as a youth soccer coach and was a member of several professional organizations and served as a member of the Finance Committee for the Town of Sudbury.
Don enjoyed stamp collecting and was an enthusiastic sports fan, especially his children’s and grand children’s games. He enjoyed travel and as an avid walker, accomplished 10K walks in each of the 50 states.
He will be remembered for his infectious smile, dry wit, gentle and caring and fine mind.
He is also survived by his daughter Kimberly Meltzer Dresser and her husband, Jon, of Framingham and his son Christopher D. Meltzer and his wife, Suzanne, of Cleveland, Ohio. Grandfather of Jaimilee and Mikayla Dresser and Isabel and Casey Meltzer. Also survived by his brother and sister in law, Dale L. and Linda Meltzer and his sister and brother in law, Teri and Vinson Muskovitch, all of New Hampshire. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 4, at 11:00 am at First Parish Unitarian-Universalist, 327 Concord Road Sudbury.
