Grover Hunter Coffey, 70 of Stuarts Draft passed away, just before sunrise, Saturday, November 22, 2014 with his family by his side. He was born April 8, 1944 to the late Alfred Cyrus Coffey and Tressia Fretwell Coffey. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Scottie Coffey and his sisters, Julia Losh, Jane Coffey-Hepler, and Anniabelle Latsko.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dotty Benson Coffey of Stuarts Draft; his daughter, Shelly Coffey Tierney and her husband Jim along with two grandsons, Jack Hunter Tierney and Owen Connor Tierney, all of Charlottesville. He is also survived by his brother, Billy Coffey; his sisters, Joyce Fretwell and her husband Tommy, Becky Stump and her husband Wayne; along with many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Josh Coffey, Nick Coffey, Kris Losh, Steve Losh, Mark Stump, Terry Stump, Sterling Fauber, and Dale Fauber.
Grover was born and raised in Stuarts Draft. He served his country proudly in the United States Army with service in Germany. He was employed by Augusta County for more than 20 years, as a master mechanic. He will be remembered by those who knew him as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, as well as an avid hunter and friend to many.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Charles Carroll officiating. Burial with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 340, will follow at Rankin United Methodist Church Cemetery. The funeral precession will pause while enroute to his final resting place; while Grover takes one last ride on the Coffey Family Farm.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8p.m. Monday, November 24, 2014 at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes in Stuarts Draft.
