Hobe Sound, FL. Loving husband, father and grandfather, Joseph John Peditto died on August 20th, 2022 in Palm Harbor, Florida.
Joe was born on Jan 15, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in south Philadelphia, graduated from Southern High School and went on to La Salle College. He graduated from La Salle with a BA in science. His good grades and achievements while at La Salle College enabled him to get into his beloved Jefferson Medical School. He graduated from Jefferson Medical school in 1960 and completed his medical training by interning for a year at Misericordia Hospital.
Following internship, Joseph fulfilled his ROTC military obligation. Joe served on active duty for two years in Germany as a Captain in a medical unit. Upon returning home, he completed the remainder of his service duty in a reserve status.
After serving in the army, Joe set up his medical practice in his neighborhood of south Philadelphia. He loved general practice because it was exciting, it challenged his skills and provided one on one personal contact. His patients were his extended family and he was affectionally called “Dr Joe”. He stayed current on all medical topics, served on medical seminars and taught when the opportunity arose. When Family Medicine was designated as a specialty, Joe sat for the specialty boards, passed and received the designated title of “Family Practitioner”. He maintained that certification throughout his professional life through periodic testing of new information.
Despite all his hard work, Joe found time for the things he loved. He played sports throughout his school years and could be found rooting for his favorite teams. He also had a love of music that carried on throughout his life. He played in school bands and on a local children’s tv station. He also loved to dance and up until his passing could be found with his wife, Millie, dancing the night away at the Hobe Sound VFW.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Mildred D’Amico Peditto, his Brother Francis Peditto and his six daughters; Dr. Kathleen Peditto, Michele Holly, Madalyn Peditto, Colleen Fox, Mary Claire Peditto and Heidi Ann Peditto; his two stepchildren, Michael Lefkowitz, Marcey Lefkowitz; 9 grandchildren, Bridget, Emily, Ryan, Sean, Erin, Bailey, Yohnannes, David Parker, Liam and Nicky.
Family and friends will be invited to a viewing at Aycock Funeral Home on Wednesday Aug 31st from 2 to 5 P.M. to celebrate his life. A funeral mass will be held at St Christophers on Sept 1st at 11 A.M. and burial will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.
