Born in on 13th January 1927, she was the second of four children born to Homer and Esther Hobdy in Eden, Texas.
During World War 2, she moved to San Antonio Texas where she met and married Charles E Slocum of Stuart, Florida. At the end of the war they settled back in Stuart, where they raised their two children Charles Slocum, Jr., and Carol Slocum. The marriage ended in divorce.
In 1974 Florine married Ralph Hartman, Jr., beginning a romance that took them on travels all over the world and blended her family of two children with Ralph’s six children. They were residents of Sewall’s Point for several decades, later moving to Snug Harbor until Ralph’s passing in 2001. Florine lived the rest of her days in Yacht & Country Club.
Wherever she lived Florine developed many enduring friendships, not least among groups she was involved with. She was also a REALTOR and an expert seamstress. She developed deep experience in needlepoint and embroidery as a longtime member of the Sailfish Stitchery group.
Florine is survived by her two children, Charles Slocum, Carol Forster of Orlando, three grandchildren, Charles, James and Joelle Forster, and five step children, Kay Baker, Ralph Hartman III, Ricou Hartman, Steven Hartman and Peter Hartman, as well as ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
A ceremony of remembrance will be held at the Hartman Family Bench at Fernhill Memorial Gardens, located at 1501 Kanner Highway, Stuart, FL, on Saturday 7th November, 2020 at 1.00 PM, during which her ashes will be placed in the Hartman family bench. Face masks will be provided for those who do not bring their own. Due COVID-19 considerations, a memorial luncheon will be held at a later date, to be announced.
