Velda Viola Jouan

Left to cherish Velda’s memory are her children, Elaine (Gary) King, Donna French, Rodney ( Lyn) Jouan and Alan (Marieann) Jouan; her grandchildren, Tanis (Jon) Rivard, Jason (Sheralyn) King, Preston (Rosie) French, Clayton (Malena) French, Rochelle (Jeff) Nail, Jacquie Jouan, Michael (Ashley) Jouan, Shaun (Blair) Jouan and Justin (Milissa) Jouan; 18 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Velda was predeceased by her husband, Emil and all of her brothers and sisters.

Velda was a self-described farmer’s wife and partner, having had many adventures caring for a variety of animals, assisting with the day-to-day tasks and raising children. Through hard work and dedication to each other and the farm, Emil and Velda were able to build a beautiful life and legacy for their family. As much as she enjoyed life on the farm, Velda found immense happiness when she moved into Stony Plain. Living in town allowed much more time for Velda to enjoy her friends and those things she was passionate about. She enjoyed working in the garden, being surrounded by flowers and creating beautiful quilts. Often the opportunity to cook and bake for others presented itself, bringing much joy to Velda, as well as those who got to enjoy the fruits of her labour.

Velda will be dearly missed by her family, especially the sound of her laughter ringing through the room. They will fondly remember her quiet sense of humour, and her way of turning a phrase. Beyond all else, there is comfort in knowing that Velda had a strong faith and loved everyone fiercely and without compromise. This will bring much comfort in the days to come.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Tomahawk Immanuel Lutheran Church, Tomahawk, AB. Interment to follow in the Lutheran Church Cemetery.
