Horst was born on September 15, 1937 to Maria and Martin Krath in Waren, Muritz, Germany.
Horst immigrated to Canada in 1963 and eventually started up a business with his brother, Wolfgang, called K and K Painting. It helped both brothers raise their families well in Edmonton until they retired from the business. Horst lived with his family first in Edmonton, then on an acreage in Devon, and finally in Spruce Grove before living in Chartwell Wescott, Rutherford Heights and finally Hardisty Care Center.
Horst was predeceased by his wife Helen, his brother Wolfgang, and his parents, Martin and Maria Krath. He is survived by his brother Willy, and his sisters Waltraud and Marlies. Horst is also survived by his children: Linda Freeman (Mike Freeman), Edmund Krath, and Larry Krath. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Nicole, Kathleen, and Hannah Freeman—daughters of Linda Freeman—as well as Mya Krath, daughter of Edmund Krath. Additionally, Horst will be dearly missed by several nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
