It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and wife, Colleen R. Born (nee Tait), who passed away peacefully on June 5, 2023 at the age of 61. She was at home surrounded by her loving family.
Colleen was born in Edmonton to Robert (Bob) and Violet Tait. She grew up in Grande Prairie and she met the love of her life, Walter (Wally) Born, and they were married on July 24, 1982. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Carleen E. Masik (Brady) and Pamela L. Sterchi (Nick), and two grandchildren Oliver and Sophia who were the light of her life.
Colleen was a devoted wife and mother who always put her family first. She was a kind, caring, and compassionate person who touched the lives of everyone she met. She had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her love and generosity knew no bounds, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, Colleen ran a day home during the family’s time in Slave Lake and High Prairie she enjoyed watching the kids grow up and stayed in contact with many of the parents and children. She was also known for her Christmas care packages of homemade turtles, butter tarts, shortbread and thimble cookies. Which she shared with many family, work colleagues and friends over the years and affectionately know by some as the “Turtle Lady”.
Colleen is survived by her loving husband, Wally; her two daughters, Carleen and Pam; her grandchildren, Oliver and Sophia; mother, Violet; siblings, Gail Rowland and Diane Hutton, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert; brother, Darren and brother in law Mel Hutton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Canadian Cancer Society in Colleen’s memory.
Colleen will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her love, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Rest in peace, dear Colleen.
