Jay Robert ThompsonJuly 3, 1942 - November 16, 2016 Jay Robert Thompson passed away on November 16, 2016 here in Stockton, California. He was 74 years old. He was born in Stockton, California at St. Joseph's Hospital on July 3, 1942,the son of Una Spooner and Fred Spooner of Stockton, Ca. He attended Stagg High School, California State University Chico, and the University of the Pacific here in Stockton, Ca. where he met his wife of 45 years, Esther Uong-Thompson.He is survived by his wife, Esther Uong-Thompson, a step sister Patricia Spooner-Walther, her husband Garret Walther and their children, his cousins Joyce and Dan Temby and their children, Bruce Graybiel, Felicia Egan, her husband and their children, sister and brother-in-law Miriam and Tommy Sakuma. Nephews: Charles Irakl Uong, Sebangiol Sakuma, Ngiraterang Thompson Sakuma, Rechingelong Rengulbai, Matul Sakuma, Spis Elias, Eric Elias, Irakl Ueki-Uong, Xyler Elias, Kimo Masang, Junior Kyosi Dulei Jr. Nieces: Pillar Uong, Arielle Rengulbai, Jorylane Uong-Dulei, Nannette Uong, Zhanyantel Elias, Amanda David, Taina Ikeda, Durngul Sakuma, Anaya Masang, Jayzel Marcus, Nobuko Dulei, Dillukes Rengulbai, Mailyne Rengulbai.Jay worked for the Stockton Fire Department, taught history at Stockton Unified School District, and also worked for Panella Trucking company here in Stockton under the direction of our beloved Ralph and Robert Panella, who combined their two greatest passions: trucking and agriculture, forming Panella Trucking Company, one of the largest agriculture carriers in California. He was in the National Guard as part of the helicopter crews and played many taps for military services including the Marines birthday ball attended by and with the direction from J. Michael Myatt, Major General USMC (ret.) President and chief executive office of the Marine's Memorial Association. Mr. Jay Robert Thompson was a life member and benefactor of the Marine's Memorial Association, 609 Sutter St., San Francisco, CA. 94103.Jay was a member of VFW, Navy League, Elks Lodge #6 in Sacramento, Elks Lodge #218 in Stockton, California, American Legion, Karl Ross Post #16, Ed Stewart Post #803, Forty-Eighter, Stockton Music Association, Life Member and Benefactor Of The Marine's Memorial Association, 609 Sutter Street, San Francisco, California, 94103.Jay was a baseball player, but was very passionate about playing handball as well. He played the game with Jack Tone from Stockton (Deceased), Rudy Stalenburger from South End Rowing Club in San Francisco, Carl Agbulos, Ron Berberian, Craig Hamilton, Jim Noreen, Charly Nisby, Bob Basso, Walt Scheufler, Chico Feilbach, Steve Sheely, Dave Grill, Jim Casidy, Tim Casidy, Bob Fairchild and many others from Stockton, Sacramento, and San Francisco. Jay is a member of The Stockton Music Association, played the trumpet and was a bugler playing Taps for military services and the private sector. He loved hunting and traveling in California and especially loved traveling to Palau. His most memorable trip was to Palau Island, the far-western portion of the Caroline Islands That Became An Independent State In 1994 After Gaining Its sovereignty from the United States Of America. He and Mr. Lee, from the FBI, spent months there enjoying scuba diving, as Palau is ranked one of the best places in the world for scuba diving, and both enjoyed pig hunting in Babeldaob. He always got advice from Ken Genecco from K. Genecco Gun Works here in Stockton regarding the best equipment for hunting pigs, bats, and pigeons before he went to Palau. He taught english to the children in Meyuns, Palau and was assisted by his FBI friend Mr. Lee who were both loved by the people of Meyuns, Palau Island. Jay will be greatly missed by his wife, his step-sister Patricia Spooner-Walther, his beloved cousins Joyce And Don Tembly Of Oakland, CA., Bruce Graybiel, Felicia Egan and her children and his many nieces and nephews, and those children in Meyuns he taught. We all love you Mr. Jay Robert Thompson. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 10 am at Morris Chapel, 3601 Pacific Ave, Stockton, CA 95211 followed by a reception and 11 am at Grace Covell Hall, at 1720 Presidential Drive, Stockton, CA 95211. Committal to take place at 12:30 pm at Stockton Rural Cemetery, 2350 Cemetery Ln, Stockton, CA 95204.
