Harold Glyn Allen of Stockton, CA, passed on to Eternal Life on Sept. 19, 2010. He was 86. With loving family present he passed peacefully after a short illness. Harold was born April 15, 1924, in Gustine, TX, to Christopher Young Allen and Lydia Allen (Kinsey). He was the youngest of 8 children and the last surviving member. His family were farmers. During the Great Depression they fed many poor, displaced people and families travelling the country looking for food and work. This time had a great influence on Harold. Throughout his life he helped countless people who fell upon hard times. He gave freely, not expecting anything in return. Harold worked on Dude Ranches in his early adult years. He met and married Era Faye Allen (Crye) during this time. They had 4 children; Harold E. Allen, of Stockton, CA; Richard F. Allen, deceased; Robert G. Allen, deceased; and Betty J. Jones, of Redding, CA. They divorced in 1962. Shortly after he married he joined the Army to fight for his country in WWII. He was 19. He was in the Army Corps of Engineers and deployed to Northern France and Rhineland. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. His stories of this time are a testament to the valor and courage of the American Soldier. Harold was very proud of his service to his country. Harold returned from the war in 1945. He moved his family to Stockton where he went to work as a Rigger at the Naval Annex. He worked there for many years until an unfortunate accident forced him into early retirement. He then worked for the YMCA, where among other duties, he was a volleyball coach. He loved coaching and led his team to many victories. He also volunteered with the Cancer Society. In his free time he loved to garden. Harold was renowned for his green thumb and 6 foot tall tomato plants. Harold was a devout Christian. He read the Bible and sang hymns daily. He attended Stockton Baptist Church. Harold’s irascible personality and fun-loving nature endeared him to family, friends, neighbors and people he met briefly. Harold will be remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will greatly miss him. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2010 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Frisbie-Warren & Carroll Mortuary. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Frisbie-Warren & Carroll Mortuary 809 N. California St. Stockton, CA 95202. Committal will follow at Lodi Memorial Cemetery.
