A beloved coach and mentor for the past 35 years, George taught many, including his own son, in his three favorite sports of football, wrestling and baseball; however wrestling was the sport that flowed through his veins. He had an inherent knack for connecting with kids, always communicating in his own special way that made so many feel like they were a part of his family. George's home and car were always open and available for whatever his athletes needed; food was provided, too! George's coaching history includes wrestling head coach for Cesar Chavez High School, Thomas Edison High School, Bear Creek High School, girl's wrestling coach for Weston Ranch High School and assistant wrestling coach for Tokay High School. George wanted to let his kids know that he was proud of every moment he ever spent with them and wished them the best in all of their endeavors.
If you asked George what he did for a living he would always respond with "I'm a coach", however he would also answer "I'm a Marine, I served 11 years in the Marine Corps..ooh rah!" But, what paid the bills was working as a campus supervisor for Lodi Unified School District and then as a maintenance custodian for Stockton Unified School District until he retired in 2011. He stayed active after retirement to continue coaching however he had to retire completely from coaching last year. He was angry at himself but chose to see the bright side and finally embraced the roll as spectator, attending the CIF Boys State Wrestling Championships and numerous baseball games.
He leaves behind his wife of 19 years, Angela. His son, Emmanuel. His favorite mother-in-law, Hope Arechar, father-in-law, Ignacio Arechar. His four brothers and one sister, Steve Franco & family, John Oliva & family, Henry DeLeon & family, Joseph Leon & family and Alice Leon. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, friends and honorary family members. He is preceded in death by his parents Henry Sr. and Frances Leon.
