Claude Albert Johnson was born to the late Madison Johnson and Olean Christine Turner in Oakland, California on January 17, 1947. Claude was the oldest of nine children. He grew up attending New Bethel Apostolic COGIC in Richmond, CA under the leadership of Bishop A.D. Bradley.
Claude attended Richmond High School, where he excelled in Football and Track and Field in his sophomore and junior years. Claude loved hosting family barbeques where he was famous for his very own barbeque sauce. He loved family trips in his motorhome to various CA state parks and to Louisiana to visit family. He worked as a medical transporter for dialysis patients until he was injured in a motor vehicle accident which left his disabled.
On February 10, 2023 surrounded by his family, The Heavenly Father whispered to Claude to come home. “I have heard you cry. Time to take your place and rest.”
Claude was preceded in death by his parents, Madison Johnson and Mother Olean Turner and Stepfather Robert Lee Turner Sr., three siblings – Diane Johnson, Robert Turner Jr., and Evangelist Winifred Grogan.
Claude is survived by his four children; Kawaylia Johnson and Mahyante Johnson of Fresno, CA, Rocquel Johnson of Sa Leanardo, CA, and Justin Beazly of Antioch, CA; five siblings, four sisters – Beverly Thompson (Joseph) of Oakland, CA; Michele Carney and Sharon Jackson of Richmond, CA; Mother Barbara Ware of Stockton, CA, and one brother- Bishop Rufus K. Turner (Trena) of Stockton, CA. Six grandchildren, nineteen nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins and great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Claude will be held Friday, February 24, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Victory in Praise Church, 2029 East Harding Way, Stockton, CA 95205.
