Charlene "Char" Green

Charlene Green was born in Paris Texas to the late Pauline Green Henderson and Winfred M. Green Sr. Charlene was lovingly given the name bad apples by her late Aunt Ruby, after she inquired everyday if the apples on the backyard tree were ripe. Charlene set a standard of academic excellence that resonated throughout her family. She excelled while she attended Edison High School, San Joaquin Delta College and the University of the Pacific. She was crowned as the first African American Homecoming Queen while attending Delta College and was the first runner up in the Miss Black Stockton Pageant. Her career as an educator spans over 40 years, from Pomona, to San Diego , North Carolina, back to San Diego and finally Los Angeles Unified School Districts. Her passion for educating students lead her to become a speech pathologist. She received her Masters degree in Speech Pathology from Laverne University. She continued on to become an administrator She received her Administrative Credential and became the Vice Principle at Ericsson Elementary school and then the principle at Ross elementary school, both in San Diego California. After 34 years, she retired from San Diego unified school district for 10 years. When called upon, she returned to become a Principle in the Los Angels Mayors "Partnership for Education" at Ritter Elementary School in Watts California. Ritter became not only her school, her "diamond" found a place in the hearts of everyone she knew. She loved her school, students, teachers and faculty. Together they would rise victoriously from the second lowest performing school in LA unified school district to the 2012 School of the a Year awarded by the non profit MIND research institute. Known to her family as Char, she was the heartbeat. She wrapped them in boundless, unconditional love. If she was miles away or choreographing the next family production, she loved her family in such a way that each and every person could say that they know what true love has been like in their lifetime. She now resides in Heaven with her Mother Pauline Green Henderson, her father Winfred M. Green Sr., her brother Winfred M. Green Jr, her sister Sandra Kay King and niece Latroya Jackson. She is survived by her sister Paula Jackson Austin and Brother Samuel Jackson Sr. Nephews Robert D. King (Julie), Jimmy Green Jr. and Samuel Jackson Jr. Nieces Theresa Green, Veora Green Fortin (Trino), Jameeka Green Aaron (Amilcar) and Stacee Rubio. Grand Nephews Isaiah King, Trino Fortin Jr. And Israel Fortin. Grand nieces Zion King and Genevieve Fortin. Nephew Dog HarleeRay Jackson. Our dearest Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Teacher, Principle, friend and now our Angel leaves a void that can never be filled. We will never be the same without her. We pray that she rests in heaven knowing that her legacy lives on through those she loved, and who love her.
