With hearts both heavy and filled with abiding affection, we celebrate the life of Alfred Richard Del Prato, who peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on October 27, 1938, to his loving parents, Dello Paul and Mary Gertrude Del Prato. Alfred’s journey through life was colored by his extensive family, a vibrant appetite for life, his comical eccentricities, as well as a true devotion to friendship.
A proud graduate of Edison High and Stockton College, Alfred embodied the adventurous spirit of his father, who immigrated from Italy on his own to forge a new path. His commitment to excellence was evident early on during his time at Fort Ord, where he distinguished himself with remarkable skill, earning medals for achieving the highest marksmanship in Company A, 3D Battle G-P, First Brigade (RAF Training).
For many years, Alfred dedicated his professional life to the world of sales and snack food distribution, culminating in a well-deserved retirement from Genova Bakery in 2019. He was known for his personable and charming nature, as well as his penchant for playful pranks. Many of those who crossed his path from time-to-time spoke of him with genuine affinity, his infectious laugh, and how he was able to make an everlasting impact on their lives in the most heartfelt ways.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Alfred possessed a hidden talent, a quiet artistry that manifested in intricate sketches and thoughtful designs. This unseen creative spirit added another layer to the rich tapestry of his life. He was a soul that embraced the wonder of nature and sought to capture the beautiful moments he witnessed on paper.
Alfred’s zest for life extended to the realm of sports, as a lifetime member of the 49er Faithful. He was a spirited competitor on the basketball court well into his sixties, demonstrating an enduring love for the game and most of all, the camaraderie it fostered. In his later years, you could often find him in his element, strolling the cherished greens of the golf course, finding joy and tranquility in the peaceful scenery and nuances of the game.
Alfred’s greatest joy, however, was undoubtedly his family. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Irene Del Prato, who shared his life's journey. His legacy continues through his daughters, Terry Cumpian and Priscilla Morales, his sons, Rick, Christopher, Derek, and Dax, and his wealth of grandchildren, who will forever cherish the memories they created together. He was a radiant presence and source of unwavering love for them all.
Alfred Richard Del Prato joins his brother and best friend, Daniel Del Prato. All who had the privilege of knowing him felt his life was a testament to the importance of making time for friends and loved ones, the joy of friendly competition, appreciating the beauty in everyday things, and above all, the enduring bond of family. May his spirit find eternal peace, and may the memories of his vibrant life continue to inspire and comfort those he leaves behind.
Mass will be held 10:00am, Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Church of the Presentation in Stockton, CA followed by a Committal at the San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, Stockton, CA.
