Phyllis Elaine Smith

She leaves behind her father, Jewell McGhee; daughter and son-in-law, Tim and Michelle Mincey; her son David Smith; her grandsons, Ryan Mincey, Caleb Mincey, Collin Smith and Matthew Smith; her nephews Dale McGhee, Scott McGhee and many extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Smith, her mother Lucille McGhee and her brother Joseph McGhee.

Phyllis was born March 24, 1947 in Franklin, Missouri and moved to Georgia with her father as a young child. She graduated from West Rome High School and from Shorter College as a Medical Technician. She worked at Georgia Baptist Medical Center from 1969 in the lab then became Lead Technician in the Blood Bank. She left work in 1989 due to health issues after the death of her husband. Her next job was as a grandmother and helping out with grandchildren.

Phyllis loved her family dearly. She really loved keeping up with family and friends on the phone. She loved sewing and gardening. She enjoyed going to and sewing for Civil War reenactments. Phyllis would help out in anyway she could.

A visitation of family and friends will be held for Phyllis on Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. A celebration of her life will occur at 12:00 Noon in Ward's Chapel. Services will conclude with a graveside committal at Fairview Memorial Gardens | 164 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. Brother Al Shackelford, officiating.
