Greg was born in Atlanta, Georgia and was the son of Joanne Boswell and the late Edward Stewart, Jr. He received his high school diploma, class of 1975, from Cedar Grove High School in Decatur, Georgia. Greg went on to serve his country by way of the United States Navy and he retired from the Dekalb County Sheriff's Office after many years of service. He finished his career in law enforcement working in courtroom services. In his spare time, Greg loved gardening, fishing, and playing his guitar. He was a loving father and grandfather, known as “Poppa” by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his father, Mr. Edward Stewart, Jr., Greg was preceded in death by one brother, Benjamin Dowd and his step-father, Herschel E. Boswell. He is survived by his mother, Joanne Boswell of Ellenwood, GA; three sons, Shanon Stewart (Sharon) of Rabun Gap, GA, Brandon Stewart of Bermuda Run, NC and Marshall Stewart (Huang) of Colorado Springs, CO; three siblings, Bobby Stewart, Steve Boswell and Karen Bradley; two grandchildren, Alana Sheppard and Riley Stewart; two great-grandchildren, Lillyanna Justus and Hudson Justus; former wife, Doris D. Stewart; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at 2:00pm at the Georgia National Cemetery | 1080 Scott Hugens Drive, Canton, GA 30114.
