Mr. Davis Graves was born on December 17, 1951, in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Willie D. and Carrie Graves.
Davis graduated from Southwest Dekalb High School and later obtained a business degree from Blayton Business College. Davis met his love in 1970 and was united in holy matrimony to Sheila M. Graves in 1974 until death. God called his soldier home on January 10, 2024, to rest peacefully in his loving arms.
As a young man, Davis started his work history with Dekalb County/County Line parks and recreation center. In May of 1979 Davis acquired a new role at Dekalb County Government’s Information Systems Department, where he received several awards for service as well as starting a basketball league. Davis retired from DeKalb County Government in 2004, throughout his career, he was known for hard work, dedication, and ability to solve any problem and built and maintained lasting friendships. Brother Davis was once a member of the Masons. He joined Queen Excelsior Lodge #594 Ellenwood, Georgia and served as a Patron for the Gems of Galatians Youth Lodge #748 of Ellenwood, Georgia Lithonia District No. 15. The Youth Lodge Members are taught to love one another, be respectful to all, to be a good follower and a great leader. Davis had a love for sports and was an amazing athlete, exploring and utilizing talents in softball, football, and basketball. After retirement, Davis later fulfilled a dream by starting and operating his own tree stomp business, D-Dog’s stomp grinding. Additional pastime activities included the love for watching the Falcons play, traveling, and trucks. Davis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, traveling and watching his favorite TV shows. Davis will always be known for offering guidance, support, and encouragement to anyone he met.
Davis’s loving memory will be cherished by his children; Sedric (Leatrice) Graves, Jared Graves, and Jonathan (Aisha) Graves. Grandchildren, Sedric (Kenyetta) Jr., Ashlee, Simeon, Akira, Myles, Samia, Nyla, Nicola, Jazara, great grandchildren - Amir, Logan, and Legend; sisters; Mrs. Annie Robinson, Mrs. Joann (John) Franklin, Mrs. Mary J. (Perry) Isham, Ms. Juanita Bowden, Mrs. Betty J. (Gregory) Crayton, and Ms. Charlene (Charlie) Graves, a host of nieces, nephews, multitude of loving cousins, families, and friends. Davis is proceeded in death by Mr. Willis Graves, Ms. Carolyn Jackson, Ms. Gruthie Robinson, Ms. Jill Graves.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 3:00PM until 8:00PM in The Fairview Suite at Horis A. Ward - Fairview Chapel. Funeral service for Mr. Graves will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 1:00PM in The Fairview Suite. The Interment will immediately follow in Kennedy Memorial Gardens, 2500 River Road, Ellenwood, Georgia. A repast will also be held at Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel immediately after the interment.
