She grew up in the mill village in Cabbagetown and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1952. She was a cheerleader in high school and won “Miss Faraganza” during that time.
She began working at Southern Bell as an operator in the summer before her senior year and retired from there with almost 40 years of service on June 7, 1990.

She was a devoted Mother and Grandmother of 12, and Great Grandmother of 13, one of which shares her name, Emery Ann. She is also survived by one 1st cousin, Margorie Canup, born to her Mother’s twin sister, Nannie Raven, whom she spent many times with growing up. Also surviving are a host of other cousins, friends and acquaintances who loved her dearly.
She was a long time member of Kelly’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Decatur, Ga and one of the founding members of Hamilton Mill United Methodist church in Dracula, Ga. Her mother, father, husband and one grandchild, Chad Simmons, preceded her in death. Her life was spent in serving others no matter the time, cost or sacrifice.
