Nancy was born in Timberville, Virginia to Herman Lamar Hollar and Louise (Andes) Hollar on August 16th, 1933. She graduated from Bridgewater College in 1954 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work before working in Augusta County as a Social Worker for the next few years. During her senior year at Bridgewater, she was the Homecoming Queen, and was Ms. Timberville in the early 50’s. After the birth of her first child, Nancy became a homemaker, raising her two boys. Nancy loved to travel and went all over the world, traveling to China several times, as well as Russia, Spain, Greece, and Egypt. She was proud to be the Director of Broadway Bank and remained on their Board of Directors after their merger with BB&T.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Roy Whitmore.
Nancy is survived by her sons, Scott Whitmore and wife JoAnne of Midlothian, and Mike Whitmore and wife Stephanie of Claytor Lake. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, Daniel and James.
A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, March 30th, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes (18 W. Frederick St, Staunton, VA) with Pastor John Peterson officiating.
Pallbearers will be Scott Whitmore, Mike Whitmore, Daniel Whitmore, James Whitmore, Ryan Whitmore and Emily Whitmore.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
Burial will follow immediately after the service at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.
