Born in Shelby, NC on November 24, 1950, he was the son of the late William Edgar Franklin and Ruth Short Franklin.
William worked in Quality Assurance at JC Penny Distribution Warehouse and Beacon Blankets, traveling across the country, helping design and establish Quality Assurance standards.
He proudly served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam Campaign, receiving the Purple Heart medal. Through the years, William continued to be involved with various Veteran associations and organizations especially working with those affected by Agent Orange.
William was a simple man but very detailed. In earlier years, he enjoyed playing golf and softball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 38 years, Doris Jane Long Franklin; two daughters, Amanda Allen of Charlotte and Cassidy (Michael) Holland of Statesville; three grandchildren, Mirabel Jane Holland, Calvin Lee Holland and Jason Edward Alspaugh; one brother, Steve (Linda) Franklin of Kings Mountain and one sister, Patricia (Bill) Mahon of Concord. He is further survived by long-time friends Wayne and Linda Horn.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 5, 2015 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 6, 2016 at 1:00 PM with military honors.
