She was born June 12, 1922, in Rutherford County and was the daughter of the late John Edmund and Ina Cowan Norville. She was a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church since 1951 and a member of the Golden Age Sunday school class. She was a devoted and faithful homemaker, wife and mother and later retired as a CNA from Iredell Memorial Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on May 21, 1991, by her husband, Wayne Edward Campbell, whom she married on April 22, 1946; a brother, Benjamin D. Norville; and two sisters, Nan Norville and Bertha M. Bennett.
She is survived by a daughter, Rachel C. (Jeff) Gross of Stony Point; five sons, John H. (Ginny) Campbell of Carriere, Mississippi, Edward E. (Beverly) Campbell of Cherryville, Michael F. (Joyce) Campbell of Harrisburg, Harry W. (Patti) Campbell of Charlotte and Wendell L. (Lu) Campbell of Valdosta, GA; two sisters, Geneva S. Hutchens of Union Mills, NC, and Virle (Lowell) Wells of Rutherfordton; twelve grandchildren, Scott Campbell, Chelsea (J.P.) Dochety, Amy (Brad) Whitford, Laura Campbell, Matt (Becky) Campbell, Stacy Campbell, Josh Campbell, Kevin Campbell, Chris Campbell, Jonathan (Katie) Gross, David Gross, and Baxa Campbell; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service celebrating Mary’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Western Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Skip Cartin and the Rev. Andy Lackey officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, January 31, 2014, at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home and from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Saturday at the church prior to the service.
