He was born on Wednesday, July 20, 1927, in Iredell County to the late Grover G. and Bertie Lea Massey Shook. He married his dearly devoted wife, Mary Helen Smith Shook on December 6, 1963, and she survives. He loved to work as a born farmer and carpenter but went into law enforcement work as a deputy sheriff for Leroy Reavis and then to the Claremont Police Dept. He had a smile for everyone and could not say no to anyone. He loved the Lord and put his trust in Him. He dearly loved all of his family. He loved his Blessed Lord, and his church, Union Chapel Baptist Church. He loved to work and help others.
By a former marriage, he had four children, Johnny Shook and Jerry Shook, now both deceased, Ricky Shook and Danny Shook and his wife, Denise all of Statesville, a brother, Joseph Glenn Shook and a sister Katy Shook Cates both of Statesville, along with eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Shook Pharr and an infant brother.
Funeral services celebrating Cal's life will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday in the Westmoreland Chapel at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. William Wease and the Rev. Bobby Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will assemble at the residence of the deceased and will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
