Mr. Chester Ralph (Chet) Howell, 70, of 119 Dellwood Dr. Statesville, died Monday June 11, 2012 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Vandalia, Ohio on November 8, 1941, he was a son of the late Orin Davis Howell and Betty Treat Howell. He was the former owner and operator of Chet Howell Electric & Electronics Company Inc. of Statesville, NC. Chet served in the United States Marine Corps as a jet mechanic and enjoyed trout fishing, woodworking, beagle trialing, hunting, fly rod building, and gardening. He was also a member and Elder at Landmark Church of God. He volunteered in Panama, Honduras, Venezuela and Guatemala on mission trips working on most of those trips through the Lend A Hand Missions Teams.
On June 20, 1964, he married the former Karene (Kay) Poteat who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Mark A. Howell and his wife, Samantha B. Howell of Conover, N.C. and Matthew (Matt) O. Howell and his wife, Rima Howell of Raleigh, N.C. and one granddaughter, Alexandra Howell. Additional survivors include a brother, Wesley (Wes) Howell of Sanford and a sister, Melanie Bobbitt of Wilton, Calif.
Services celebrating Chet's life will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at Landmark Church Of God with Rev. Kenneth Hudson and Rev. Ben Black officiating. Pallbearers will be: Mark, Wes, Mike, Jeff and Andrew Howell, Phillip Lester, Allen Weatherman and Barry Major. Burial will follow in the Veterans Plot of Oakwood Cemetery with military rites presented by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail.
