Better known as Ann Tuttle during her life in Statesville, she was born as Cecilia Ann Hindson in Detroit Michigan on October 26, 1917 to Edward Saint Claire Hindson and mother Cecilia.
She was preceeded in death by husband Lee Edison Tuttle in 1973 and her brothers Edward and Lawrence and her sister Virginia Hindson Silver.
She is survived by her only child Marilyn Tuttle Hendry of Statesville, two grandsons Steven Hendry and Jeffrey Hendry (wife Amy) of Statesville and a granddaughter Valerie Hendry Allred (husband Donald Allred) of Springboro, Ohio. Four great grandchildren Christopher Patrick Allred and wife Claire (NYC), Melanie Allred (Columbus, OH) and Brandon Thomas Hendry and Matthew David Hendry of Statesville. And one great-great granddaughter Bayley-Sweetypie-Allred (NYC)
Mrs. Tuttle never stood in a line that she did not come away from without a new friend. Her kindness and friendly disposition were genuine. She loved to talk and drink coffee. Her ability to rebound from adversity was inspiring. She was only bed ridden for a short time.
She was born during WW1 and grew up during the 1920s and 1930s. Married to Lee Edison Tuttle in 1936 they enjoyed each other until his death in 1973.
She managed the concessions at a large Detroit movie theater and got to meet Frank Sinatra-she always said this with a twinkle in her eyes. She also ran the concession stands at Tiger Stadium and knew many of the baseball stars of the various teams. She remembered Babe Ruth as the guy that “always ate too many hotdogs”. WW2 brought better work in the B-17 Bomber Plants in Detroit where her small frame allowed her to access confined areas. After the war she was one of the first employees of Oakwood Hospital and retired as a ward secretary after 20 years.
She retired to Florida in 1973 and enjoyed an independent retirement, learning to drive and having her own place starting new at 55. She became a ride-a-long volunteer of the police patrol, worked for the American Cancer Society and donated time and money to needy causes. Needing the closeness of family she moved to Statesville in 1997 and made friends and lived independently until age 92. She was a beacon of light, love and positive energy in a world that needs more just like her.
