Virginia D. Parente

She was born in Scottdale, PA on July 14, 1929 to the late Anthony Tatarelli and Mary Pasquale. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings Margaret Tatarelli, Madeline Terzo, Annabelle Moretti, Dorothy Daconta, Michael Tatarelli, and Donald Tatarelli.

In 1936, Virginia and family moved to Staten Island and settled in New Brighton. She graduated from McKee High School in 1948 and started to work as a statistical typist for the financial firm Standard & Poor, taking the Staten Island Ferry to work (and giving her the opportunity to shake hands with Robert Kennedy), until her retirement in 1961. In 1953 she married her husband Attilio "Babe" Parente, and in 1957 they settled in Dongan Hills. After her work in Standard & Poor, she helped with her husband's store Hygrade Meat Market until 1965, where she had the pleasure of meeting Bobby Darin.

In 1967, Virginia was diagnosed with breast cancer, and after a successful surgery she was deemed a survivor with no medical complications thereafter.

Virginia and her husband enjoyed traveling to Florida in the 1960s. They started taking annual vacations to Las Vegas in 1970. After her husband's retirement in 1990, they enjoyed taking cross-country vacations, visiting all 50 states, especially Arizona where her nephew Donald Tatarelli Jr and his family lived. Virginia and her husband enjoyed hosting their annual 4th of July barbeque picnic at their home for over 40 years, gathering large crowds of relatives. They both loved their dog Fever. She enjoyed her daily routine of playing the New York Lottery Numbers, and taking trips to Atlantic City with her husband, friends, and family. She loved watching action movies and Wheel of Fortune. She especially treasured time with her mother who lived close-by, her sister Annabelle and family that lived across the street, and the rest of her siblings at holiday gatherings. She cooked her macaroni and gravy dinner every Sunday for her family, and had weekly gatherings with her sisters and her cousin Patty for pizza and poker games.

Although, Virginia had no children of her own, she cherished, loved and was generous to her late niece Maryann Peteroy and family. Also, her nephews Dr. Michael Moretti and family, Robert Moretti, and the late Dr. Anthony Moretti and family. She also loved spending time with her other nephews the late Alfred Terzo and the late Mark Daconta.

She will be greatly missed and loved for years to come.

A visitation for Virginia will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314. A religious ceremony will occur Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, 101 Cromwell Ave, Staten Island, NY 10304. A committal service will occur Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 11:45 AM at Moravian Cemetery, 2205 Richmond Rd, Staten Island, NY 10306.
