The lifelong Staten Islander was born Theresa Viola in Port Richmond. She moved to Westerleigh in 1951, where she remained for the next 63 years.
Mrs. Russo graduated from Port Richmond High School.
She worked as a bookkeeper for the New York City Board of Education at her alma mater for 24 years, retiring in 1994.
A passionate Yankee fan, she held season tickets for the past 14 years. She also enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, gardening, and thoroughly relished decorating for holidays. An avid music lover, she cleaned house while listening to Frank Sinatra songs.
“Nick-named 'Mother Terry' by all, she was entirely devoted to her family, especially her grandson, Philip Campanella, Jr. She cherished her son-in-law, Phil Campanella, and very special cousins, all of whom were huge supporters during her time of need,” said her daughter, Jo Elizabeth Russo.
Her husband of 15 years, Nicholas Russo, died in 1965.
Along with her daughter, Jo Elizabeth, Mrs. Russo is survived by a daughter Anne Theresa Campanella, and a grandson.
The funeral service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Brighton.
