A lifelong Staten Islander, she was born and raised in Westerleigh, living there until settling in Annadale 20 years ago.
Mrs. Kain graduated from Port Richmond High School.
Until the late 1980s, she was a bank teller and bookkeeper at Westerleigh Savings Bank for 15 years.
In the 1990s she became the hostess and an essential part of the Armory Inn which was her son's establishment for 12 years.
“Patrons would call and sometimes ask, is your mom going to be there? She greeted everyone with a smile, people would come in and give her a hug and kiss. She’d sit down with customers and talk about their grandkids and wouldn’t let them leave until they finished their meal,” said her son, Scott.
Mrs. Kain enjoyed sporting events. She was very family oriented and hardly missed any of her grandson’s high school and college baseball games. She was an avid N.Y. Mets and Rangers fan. She also enjoyed bingo and visiting Atlantic City.
“She was happy-go-lucky and smiled until the day she died. She treated everyone like her best friend. She was loyal, trustworthy and treated everyone nice. She still missed her pet bull dog, Bubba, who died three years ago,” said her son, Mark.
Along with her sons, Scott and Mark, she’s survived by her husband of 55 years, George, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
Arrangements under the direction of Casey Funeral Home, Staten Island, NY.
