Sr. Rosemary Ward

Sr. Rosemary Ward was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 28, 1932, the eldest of five children to George and Roselind Ward. She professed her first vows on April 10, 1953 and her final vows on April 10, 1956.

Sr. Rosemary attended St. Margaret Mary’s School and St. John Villa High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in history and education and her Masters of Science degree in administration and chemistry from Fordham University.

Sr. Rosemary served the children of Staten Island for more than 50 years. She taught at St. Sylvester, St. Paul’s and St. John Baptist. She served as Principal at Our Lady Queen of Peace from 1969 –to 1985, and at St. Clare from 1986 – 2004 where she retired as Principal. She was awarded the Patrick Daly Award for “carrying on the spirit of dedication to children.” She was chosen for the Award because her philosophies mirrored those of the late Patrick Daly, a Brooklyn principal who was tragically slain in 1992.

Many of her former students, teachers and co-workers have remained loyal to her to the very end by reaching out and remembering her with fond memories and stories. She has been remembered by all since she retired from St. Clare. Sister set an example to be kind, understanding, forgiving and to appreciate the love of God and to use that appreciation in every part of their everyday lives.

Sr. Rosemary served as Congregation Leader as well as Treasurer and leaves behind her Sisters in the Presentation Community as well as her brother George and his wife Dottie, brother in law Frank and many loved nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brothers Daniel & Thomas and her Sister Mary.

Visitation will be at Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, 30 Nelson Ave., Staten Island, N.Y. Sunday, December 22nd 1:00pm – 5:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Clare Roman Catholic Church, 110 Nelson Ave., SI., NY, December 23rd, 11:00am. Interment will follow at the Presentation Sisters Cemetery.
