was born and raised in Staten Island, NY. He grew up in Castleton corners and has lived in West
Brighton since 1997.
Robert is survived by his daughter Eileen Finley Lowe (Randy) and three grandchildren
Isabelle, Randy and Giuliana. His brother Retired Rear Admiral Michael Finley (Lindyll) and his
sister Laura Finley Konczynski (Joseph) and three nephews. Robert was the loving son of Joan
and Edward (Buddy) Finley, of Castleton corners.
In his early years, Robert enjoyed scouting adventuring as a member of Boy Scout
Troop 57 Staten Island. He rose through the ranks, achieving the prestigious rank of Eagle
Scout. He was a graduate of Susan E Wagner HS class of 1971, where he began the gymnastics
team. He was an accomplished gymnast specializing in the ring as well as being a member of
the track team. He was a college graduate of SUNY Brockport’s class of 1975 with a Bachelor's
Degree in Physical Education. He was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed camping, fishing,
hunting, and rock climbing.
Robert was a skilled wood craftsman carrying on the family passion for woodworking
with his father Buddy and grandfather Edward Finley. He turned that passion into a career. For
the past 31 years Robert worked as a carpenter for the Board of Education. He was a member
of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, local20. He worked in many schools and shops on
Staten Island and Brooklyn until his retirement in January 2019.
