Philomena "Fay" Claps

Philomena (Fay) Claps passed away at 96 after a long battle with dementia. Although we are all saddened by her departure, we are grateful that she is no longer suffering, and that she is in a better place with her lost loved ones.

Fay went to mass every Sunday while she was physically able to and lived a life of faith and worship. She implemented the Lord’s teachings in here everyday life and there is no doubt about where she is going now.

Fay immigrated to America from Italy with her family for a better life and she sure got one. She became a decorated seamstress and was so talented in her craft that she worked faster and more proficiently than the machines. She became a wife to Vito Claps; a mother to Marguerite and Danny; a grandmother to Kelli, Christina, Thomas, and Dannyboy; and a great-grandmother to Blake, Michael, Chase, and Josephine.

She was a spectacular artist who poured her heart and soul into hundreds of magnificent paintings that she gave to her friends and family and hung around her home. She painted murals in her yard around her pool where her children and grandchildren grew up in a whimsical world of color and comfort.

Fay loved her family selflessly, cared for her pets as if they were humans, cooked delicious sauce every Sunday, and never failed to wow us with her elaborate clothes and jewelry. Her kind heart, innate creativity, and hilarious honesty made her a force to be reckoned with. She will be remembered fondly by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

A visitation for Philomena will be held Sunday, November 10, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314. A funeral service will occur Monday, November 11, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Roman Catholic Church, 1634 Victory Blvd, New York, NY 10314. A committal service will occur Monday, November 11, 2024, from 11:15 AM to 11:30 AM at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, US-1 North, North, Woodbridge Township, NJ 08830.
