Born in Staten Island on September 29, 1945, she was educated at St. Dorothy’s Elementary and St. Peter’s Girls High School. She later attended Richmond College.
She married her husband, William J. Smith, Sr. in 1964 and their 50-year marriage produced three children: Kelly Anne (Cantone), Joseph and William, Jr.
The couple settled in Great Kills in 1970 to raise their family, where they resided for over 40 years. When their children reached school age, Pat rejoined the workforce as a mortgage clerk at Staten Island Savings Bank in addition to serving as a Scouting and Little League Mom. In her 20-plus year career at the bank she rose to become Executive Assistant to three CEOs and served as Corporate Secretary to the Board of Directors.
When she retired in 2006, Pat and her husband split time between Jackson, New Jersey and Pompano Beach, Florida. Upon her husband’s death in 2015, she relocated to Basking Ridge and to Monmouth Beach in 2018, both in New Jersey.
In her retirement, Pat enjoyed travelling to Aruba and Europe, along with spending time with family at her homes and the Jersey Shore.
Along with her husband, she is predeceased by her parents Edmund and Vivian (Miller) Lonergan and her siblings, Elsie Miller and Dr. Edmund Lonergan. She is survived by her daughter Kelly Anne and her husband Thomas, sons Joseph and his wife Laura, and William, Jr. and his wife Maryellen. She is beloved by her grandchildren Joseph, Justin, Logan, Reagan, Kennedy, William III, Mckinley and Catherine. Patricia will be dearly missed by her goldendoodle puppy, April Smith.
A visitation for Patricia will be held Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308. A funeral service will occur Friday, June 18, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Clare Church, 110 Nelson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10308. A committal service will occur Friday, June 18, 2021 from 12:30 PM to 12:45 PM at Ocean View Cemetery, 3315 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY 10306.
