Nicholas Joseph Russo, 20, son of James and Carol Doodian-Russo of West Brighton, passed away on Wednesday March 22nd at home. Nicholas graduated from St. Peter’s Boys High School in 2020 and was attending the College of Staten Island where he was pursuing a Major in English and a Minor in Continuing Education. He aspired to become an English or History Professor.
Nicholas played flag football for 9/11 Flag Football League, was a Boy Scout, and ran track at Sacred Heart. He was a silver medalist in the 400m tri-state championships and represented Sacred Heart at a Catholic Youth Organization national event in Fort Lauderdale. His enjoyment of track continued even while he was at St. Peter’s.
Nicholas also had an adventurous spirit which led him to finding joy in skiing in Vermont and New Hampshire, going on food tours in Philadelphia, camping in the Adirondacks and kayaking wherever he could. That joy paled in comparison to the jubilation he felt from the annual summer vacation in Cape May, N.J. with his family.
Nicholas was interested in the culinary arts and would be elated when he discovered new ingredients, tried new methods to cook with and helped with the baking during the holidays. He was a coffee aficionado at heart who always up for a trip to the new coffee shop to try out their fresh selection.
Nicholas will be gravely missed by his parents, aunts, uncles, friends, cousins and his best bud Baili, the family Golden Retriever.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nicholas can be made to Danny'sLaw.org or The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
