Dearest mother and grandmother, retired educator Mary Giuriceo, 89, of Richmond, passed away on October 14, 2021. She is the beloved mother of Jean Ford, Carol Giuriceo (who predeceased her), and Judy Giuriceo-Lord, and grandmother of Lynette and Caroline Ford and Olivia and Nathaniel Lord. She was predeceased by her husband Mario Giuriceo. Mary was a long-time teacher at Staten Island schools including the elementary school at St. Joseph Hill Academy.
Mary Giuriceo passed away on October 14, 2021. She was 89 years old.
Born in Queens, New York, Mary was the oldest of three children and had a younger brother and sister. In 1956, she married her husband Mario Giuriceo, a native of the Bronx, World War II veteran, and advertising art director. They met at work in Manhattan.
The couple moved to Staten Island in 1963, where they raised three daughters. Mary earned a Bachelor of Arts from Richmond College, City University of New York and a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from the College of Staten Island, achieving a long-held dream of becoming a teacher. Mary happily taught elementary and middle school for many years in Staten Island schools, including St. Joseph Hill Academy - Elementary, Our Lady Help of Christians School, and St. Joseph’s R.C. School, Rosebank.
After retiring from teaching, Mary enjoyed helping with her grandchildren and spending time with family and friends. She was predeceased by Mario (after 42 years of marriage) in 1998, and her daughter Carol in July 2021. She is survived by her sister Jean, daughters Jean and Judy (Michael), and four grandchildren. Mary was a longtime parishioner of St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Richmondtown.
Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314. A funeral mass will occur Friday, Oct. 22, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at St Patrick's Church, 53 St Patrick's Pl, Staten Island, NY 10306.
